Green Planet Clay Paints Green Planet Paints offers waterborne interior paints made with sustainably produced plant-based ingredients and minimally processed mineral pigments to create rich, lightly washable matte finishes. Instead of petroleum-based acrylic resin, these paints use a soy resin. Additives have been limited to a small set of simple materials to avoid complex chemistries. Unlike most paints, every ingredient is disclosed on the label. This product can be used anywhere that conventional interior paints would be; coverage is approximately 350 square feet per gallon on a smooth surface. And if you want to make your own paints, they’ll even help with that. Green Planet Paints; PO Box 13, Patagonia AZ 85624; phone 520-394-2571; www.greenplanetpaints.com. |

Eco-nize Custom Storage Systems Eco-nize designs, builds, and installs custom small-office, storage, cabinet, and closet systems using all CARB Phase 1 and federal Environmentally Preferable Product Specification compliant materials, such as no-added-urea-formaldehyde (NAUF) composite particleboards and MDF with 100-percent recycled cores. The company employs the eco-efficiency concept of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) as a corporate driver—“new and better goods and services using fewer natural resources and causing less pollution along the entire value chain.” Pricing is competitive with other, non-green, custom systems. Pulse-Pure Water Treatment System Evapco, international manufacturer of heat-transfer products, offers the Pulse-Pure non-chemical water treatment system for cooling towers. Pulsed, time-varying electromagnetic fields are used to control scale (through precipitation—even at high cycles of concentration), biological growth (through agglomeration and electroporation), and as a result, corrosion (at rates the same as typical chemical water treatment), and water use. Treatment chemicals are eliminated from the facility, drift, and blowdown. As part of its guarantee, Evapco monitors the system’s performance for the first year. Pulse-Pure isn’t appropriate for all water conditions. Power consumption varies; a 500-ton system, for example, uses 4 amps at 120 volts. EVAPCO, Inc.; PO Box 1300, Westminster MD 21158; phone 410-756-2600; www.evapco.com. |

EZ-Cabling Voice/Data Cabling System Electec’s voice/data modular zone cabling systems use low-smoke, zero-halogen (LSZH), heavy-metal free (RoHS compliant) components to create a permanent infrastructure with frequent connection bays that allow quick and easy routing reconfiguration. Buildup of abandoned cabling in walls and air-handling spaces, a common fire hazard, is prevented—which saves money, physical resources, and the liability of future cable removal (of particular value to building owners). Installed cost is comparable to standard construction due to reduced labor. A system with similar attributes for lighting, power outlets, and other electrical wiring requirements will be released in the coming months. Electec Limited; 5977 Hazeldean Rd Ste 100, Ottawa ON K2S 1B9 Canada; phone 613-836-0300, toll-free 866-233-5328; www.electeconline.com. |

Ecoflo Septic Systems Premier Tech Environment offers compact septic treatment systems for residential, commercial, and community wastewater applications. The passive Ecoflo system, an alternative to a standard leach field, removes fecal coliform, nitrogen, and up to 98% of phosphorous from effluent without requiring pumps or moving parts. The modular system—a permanent solution supported by a maintenance program—can be sized to meet most needs, and is well suited for variable flows and intermittent or seasonal use. Over 40,000 installations exist. The company also offers the ultra-compact Ecoflex denitrogenizing system designed for even smaller spaces in sensitive areas. Premier Tech Environnement; 1 avenue Premier, Rivière-du-Loup QC G5R 6C1 Canada; phone 418-867-8883, toll-free 800-632-6356; www.ptenv.com. |

DAC-55 Refrigerated Walk-in Monitors The DAC-55 from Modularm combines an audible and visual door-ajar alarm, control of the lights, and automatic interruption of the refrigeration system relative to the status of the door—all user-configurable—into a single, easy-to-install, compact unit for walk-in coolers and freezers. Energy is saved because personnel are trained to close the doors, lights don’t get left on, and the compartment operates more efficiently. Multiple doors can be monitored. Applications range from supermarkets and restaurants to labs and warehouses. Modularm Corp.; 61 Mall Dr, Commack NY 11725; phone 631-864-3860; www.modularm.com. |

Sanyo Eco-i HVAC System Sanyo’s ECO-i VRF (variable refrigerant flow) heat pumps are all-in-one modular space conditioning systems providing ductless heating and cooling for multiple discrete zones in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. The units use non-ozone-depleting R410a refrigerant to provide from 3.2 to 20.7 tons cooling, and 3.6 to 23.2 tons heating, depending on model and configuration—some of which have a COP over 4.0 at full load (most heat pumps are between 2.0 and 3.0). These systems need only a single refrigerant pipe network and one building penetration. SANYO Commercial/HVAC Solutions; 1165 Allgood Road Ste 22, Marrietta GA 30062; phone 770-977-8510; www.sanyohvac.com. |
